Looks like we are down to splitting hairs. You are certainly correct as far as formal crossings points, but I could have been at fault if I read into your post, that we were always this indifferent to the security of the borders.

But then we weren't talking a War on Terror or War on Drugs ...whatever the current buzz word is.

I think we are splitting hairs, and there probably isn't much different what each of us is getting at. BTW, to observe that our land borders have always been wide open is not the same as saying they should be today given the era in which we live and challenges we face as a nation.
