I absolutely cannot countenance tossing the Constitution overboard in order to correct what you see as a wrong in this single case.

I agree with you that we do not know the facts and that massive conspiracy is unlikely. I also agree that the threat of impeachment, at this point, is a political trick. However, I really have very little faith in the justice system and it is entirely possible that politics heavily influenced the prosecution and the rules of evidence in this case. Calling for a presidential pardon to follow a complete review does not equal "tossing the Constitution overboard."

After living through the Rodney King riots and the OJ Simpson fiasco here in Los Angeles, I also have very little faith in the justice system.

Yes, it's possible. Maybe it even happened. I don't know. But I ask why all of this power supposedly came down on these two men.

True, and that's not my argument. However, asking for this or any President to interfere in a judicial proceeding (appeal) that has not reached its conclusion, and threatening him with impeachment if the men are harmed in prison most certainly is precisely that.
