Growing up (graduated high school in 1994), we checked our shotguns and rifles in at the school office.

Howdy Liz,
I have been reading every post on this thread. I am so glad the JimRob posted this. Most telling is that Rudys statements from 10 years ago are taboo but the supporters use that same period to promote him. Very strange but not surprising. Reminds me of lemmings.

Children are under their parents' care. Like anything else, it would be up to the parent at what age a child could handle a gun and under what level of supervision.
Do you own firearms? I'll be honest with you, my wife doesn't like them either. Myself, I wasn't brought up with a love for firearms. And until about 20, I was a raving liberal. So I was always pretty squeamish around guns. Still am to an extent.
I choose to be armed out of a sense of duty to country and more importantly to my family. Someday, you may just have something more to fear than a firearm and when you put your kids to bed at night, you may just thank God that you were well armed.

If that was what he was saying, then he's full of crap. He went out of his way to file lawsuits
in Federal court against gun dealers in other states, so that silly rationale goes out the window.
The reason his statements have been subject to such a wide range of interpretation is that those statements didn't mean anything at all . . . they were just mindless -- and deliberately evasive -- gum-flapping during the course of a "campaign appearance" on a cable news show.

So it's official. FR opposes Guiliani's presidential bid.
Very well then, effective immediately, I am done posting on further Rudy threads & posting Rudy-related news articles. There is no need for further debate as such debate will be monotonous, engaging in the same circular arguments day in and day out. I felt I made a compelling argument as to why Rudy should be President, but I've been PW3ND!! I shall respect the wishes of those who believe that a social conservative is the best way to triumph in the general election.
So long, farewell, Au'voir, auf wiedersehen, goodbye...

Dole and Bush were still nominally pro-life, 2nd Amend., etc.
Ford was from an era long ago when Rockefeller Republicans ruled the land. Ronald Reagan slayed those dinosaurs. We don't need to resurrect one.
To: streetpreacher
thank you for your thoughtful and constructive response. i really appreciate. it may not sound like it by my questions, but since becoming a mother, i have definitely considered owning a firearm.

>>>>>C'mon, the man proudly bills himself as a social liberal. What do you think a social liberal is? Hint, he's not a conservative. Thanks for clearing the air, Jim. That's exactly what many FReepers have been saying for months. Reminds me of something Tom McClintock said back during the California recall election of 2003.
"I have always thought that one of the phoniest claims in California politics is that 'I'm a fiscal conservative but a social liberal,' which always invites the question: 'How do you plan to pay for your socially liberal programs with your fiscally conservative policies?'"
