CAIRO, Egypt - The U.S. military said Wednesday a CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter went down about 20 miles northwest of Baghdad, while an Iraqi air force officer said it was downed by an anti-aircraft missile.
Al-Qaida-linked Sunni insurgents claimed responsibility for the alleged attack.
The claim was issued in an Internet statement signed by the Islamic State in Iraq, an umbrella group of several Sunni insurgent groups, including al-Qaida in Iraq. The authenticity of the statement -- posted on a Web forum where the group often issues statements -- could not be independently confirmed.

I do not spin. I simply do not want defeatism and knee jerking to spread on this great forum forum. Are you a defeatist? Are you providing aid and comfort to the enemy by providing defeatist speeches or knee jerking every time we lose a hero in the battlefield? Every freeper should think about this every time he or she posts.

Don't count on it.
The president has seemingly morphed into a republican Jimmy Carter.
Our commander-in-chief need to embrace the attitude of some of our great military leaders:
"In war, there is no substitute for victory." -- MacArthur
"I don't want to pay for the same real estate twice." -- Patton
"After this war is over, the only place Japanese will be spoken is in Hell." -- Halsey

"do we know yet what type of missile or rocket is being used to do hit the helicopters?"
Yes, but I'm not part of that "We".
The problem is that a helicopter is such a sensitive mass of whirling blades that a kid can down one by throwing a rock at the tail rotor. Most were never designed to take enemy fire in the tail-rotor and associated drive, or the swash-plate area.
I believe the Army is prohibited from operating fixed wing aircraft. So expect more of the same in the future.
The story goes like this: Army flies helicopter into hostile area...all souls on board dead.
Also, note to others: the Osprey is not the answer! It has demonstrated its designed ability to self-destruct without the need for enemy fire. Just in case some nitwit was going to suggest the Osprey would solve things.

A defeatist is someone who thinks that we cannot win in Iraq because it is just a civil war and therefore we must leave. A defeatist is someone who dwells on the negative stories and knee jerk everytime there is a loss of one of our brave heroes. A defeatist is someone who does not have the guts for casualties. A defeatist is someone who lost all perspective that this is a long war and it requires blood and sacrifice to win it.

My point fellow FReeper is that we should not dwell on losses and negative news as such putting in the "Breaking News Section" each story about a helicopter crash. Bad news demoralize people, and can lead to defeatist attitude. That is what the liberal media is doing on a daily basis. That is what our enemies want us to do, dwell on the negative news. Our enemy can cause us little damage on the battlefield but they can always count on our liberal media to make the little losses much bigger than they really are to create more despair among the US population. We should not help the enemies, even indirectly, by putting the negative news in a prominent fashion.
