This press release is several days old but Newt is ahead in the latest Free Repulic poll so I think it's timely.

Though Newt is articulate like Reagan:

1) He had 4 years to close the border, and did nothing.
2) He had 4 years to balance the budget, and did nothing.
3) His "Bohemian Grove" connection http://www.nationalreview.com/11sep95/newt.htm will hardly light a fire under the Christian vote.
4) Other assorted baggage mentioned by other freepers.

I'm ready to run with some fresh blood that is not a proven failure.

He has a Q score lower than Hillary. It would be political suicide.

Newt is who the Republicans need.
Newt is who America needs to be the
next President of the United States.

Especially if Hillary runs.. AND she will.. (jaws theme)

The resulting ((( Duuuugh ))) is earth shaking..

It is never a good idea to move backwards.

Regardless of his popularity within our political circles, to the average American, Newt is about as popular as a forty-something ex-high school football star that spends most of his time reliving past glories while wandering through life with his backside plastered into a Lazy-boy and a beer balanced next to the remote and Cheetos.

Drafting Newt will guarantee our loss. No matter who our candidate ends up being, he/she needs to be about the future, not the past.

I've said it before and I'll say it again…

Not only is Newt Gingrich unelectable, he's unnominateable!

As Henry Hyde said, Newt is half genius and half nuts.

Newt is an intelligent and thoughtful person who I could easily give my support to. However, I don't think he will get the support he needs to be nominated simply because he doesn't have the looks (like Mitt), or the charisma (like Rudy?) to attract enough people. Not to mention, he has a lot of baggage, but so does Rudy and Hillary. Maybe this time around baggage isn't gonna be such a big deal since they all got it big time! LOL!

OK. Let's do a real-world translation of the headline for y'all:

"Nationwide Effort to ensure GOP '08 defeat Launches to 'Draft Newt'.."

Hitlery would defeat him. He has no constituent base, has never been elected to anything other than a Congressional seat, has high negatives thanks to decades of sometimes unfair media character assassination, and is so cerebral that he would put most Americans to sleep.

Now I like Newt (other than he appeared to lay down and let the 'Rats do whatever they wanted the last few years of his Speakership - perhaps a 'quid pro quo' to let him serve out his term in office as a settlement of his ethics charges? I have always wondered about that), but electability and Newt are two words that do not fit in the same sentence.

If he runs to move the debate, fine. But anyone thinking he can win the nomination is almost certainly mistaken, while anyone thinking he could win in November 2008 is, well, delusional....

I'd vote for Newt before I'd vote for Rudy or McCain.

I think Mr. Gingrich has been slavering to get back into some kind of power position for years. I don't believe him. If no one were to do anything, he would still run. He just wouldn't have the extra boost from being "talked into" running by "popular demand".

He's wily, for sure, and has a good strategy here. But, in my opinion, once a person gets a taste of the tremendous power and wealth available in national public office, he doesn't quit willingly, and will seek it again at the first opportunity.

I'm sure there are a few that have decided to turn their backs. The great majority that have seemed to leave it have been forced out against their wills. The reason will just be a story spun to save face. Politicians treat their fellow travelers gently and very tenderly.

Looks as though Newt has committed that he will only run if the American people draft him.

BTTT! Draft Newt!

And I won't agree with any pseudo-Republican soulmate of Hillary to be Newt's running mate! We sincerely want Newt to stay alive. Find a real pro-defense, pro-family, conservative man to be his running mate.

Newt is a NWO Globalist. He's unelectable anyway. He's got more baggage than the cargo hold of a 747.
