Ex-Border Agent Said Beaten in Prison

EL PASO, Texas (AP) -- A former U.S. Border Patrol agent who was convicted of shooting a drug smuggling suspect and then lying about it was beaten by fellow inmates in prison, his relatives and a congressman said Tuesday. Prison officials did not immediately confirm that Ignacio Ramos had been attacked.

The convictions of Ramos and fellow former agent Jose Alonso Compean sparked outcry from critics who argued that the men were merely doing their job defending the border against criminals.

U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., a vocal supporter of the agents and opponent of illegal immigration, criticized the Bush administration Tuesday for failing to protect Ramos and demanded a full presidential pardon for the two men.

"Not only did the administration choose the side of a foreign dope runner over the agents who stopped him from smuggling a load of drugs into the county _ now they've failed to protect that agent while his case is on appeal," he said in a statement.

Ramos and Compean, who reported to prison in January, were each sentenced to more than a decade behind bars. Ramos is being held at a medium- and low-security federal facility at Yazoo City, Miss. Compean is serving his sentence at the Elkton Federal Correctional Institution in Ohio; no problems have been reported with his detention.

The agents were convicted last year of shooting Osvaldo Aldrete Davila in 2005 near El Paso and then trying to cover up the incident. Davila was shot once in the buttocks.

Ramos' wife, Monica Ramos, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that her husband described being attacked late Saturday, when he "let his guard down." She said the attackers kicked and stomped him for several minutes.

He was able to identify one man in the group, Monica Ramos said.

Officials of the Federal Bureau of Prisons did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment Tuesday.

I'm wonder how many Border Patrol agents are quitting, planning to retire early, or just not working seriously after seeing what has happened to these two agents.

This sort of thing, is why Republicans lost in November.

The worst of all: it was completely, 100% avoidable.

Republicans in the House, understood. They were outnumbered, outspun (often by their own party) and shoved to the margins.

Democrats won, as a result.

Republicans need to remember they're AMERICANS FIRST. Not Mexicans. Not "internationalists". Americans.

But first, President Bush needs to pardon these two heros.

Now.

There are crooked cops in this world that should be in prison, but they're the ones getting away with everything they do. OTOH, when you have two men who are doing nothing more than their jobs, they get canned. WTF????

Oh, please! They're not scooped by anybody. Please tell me you're not so easily deluded.
The only reason the AP isn't on this story is because they don't want to be on this story

Told you WorldNetDaily scooped them.

They all should quit, Its obvious the government isnt going to help them do their job nor are they going to protect them if something bad goes down.

I always thought that ex-police got a little extra protection if they wee imprisoned. Obviously they don, Infatc it looks like this one was deliberately thrown to the wolves.

The man doesnt belong in jail in the first place.

The corrupt prosecutor who cooperated with Mexican drug smugglers to railroad and frame these men may well be behind the beating. He probably wants both agents dead. While they live, the constant drumbeat for their release keeps the appalling circumstances of this case in the public eye. Sooner or later the Justice Department will be forced to investigate the connections between the dishonest prosecutor and his Mexican drug smuggler partners. If the agents are murdered in prison however, the story will, after a few days of outrage, simply go away. It's imperative, a matter of life and death, that these men be released forthwith. I'm phoning the White House today.

Hate to say it, but President Bush is sound asleep, and has been for a long time. He forgot to listen to real Americans.

URGENT!! Nacho and Jose -
THEIR LIVES ARE IN DANGER!!
Contact your elected officials immediately!!

The following email was received Feb 05, 2007 from George Ramos - Nacho's uncle:

Dear Everyone,

This e-mail goes out to all of you with deep anger!!! Nacho just got off the phone with Monica, Nacho was assaulted Saturday night around 2200 by about five illegal immigrants. He has multiple and severe injuries. They put him in Isolation for now, he has not been allowed to see a doctor since Saturday. They were yelling at him in Spanish, Maten a la migra. which means kill the Border Patrol Agent. If he recovers from this, they will put him back in general population. This is what the Justice Department wants, including George Bush and Johnny Suttton. They figure if these two Agents are killed, then they don't have to worry about all of us any longer. We must rally together now more then ever to put pressure on our gov't to release these to agents NOW!!!! In the mean while we must DEMAND that they be protected and treated with respect. Please Forward this to as many people as you can. WE NEED TO UNITE AS AMERICANS NOW, AND DEMAND JUSTICE!!!!!"

I voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004. I wish
he'd run again so I could vote against him.

Could someone please tell me exactly when it was that the President of the United States of America was given the personal responsibility to keep all convicted felons in prison safe from harm?

Tancredo is using this case for political reasons and using Ramos and Compean as poster children for his agenda. I had hoped Tancredo would help solve the problem of open borders and illegal immigration but he is showing himself to be a less than honorable man. The signs were there, but they have been replaced by billboards.
