When I was little there were so many people in my neighborhood with tatoos on their arms I thought it was part of being an adult.
And those were the lucky ones.
To this day there is a lady in my Torah Study class who wears this tatoo.
In my writer's group was an elderly man who had been in the US Army and was one of the American soldiers who liberated one of the major concentration camps. For years he never spoke of it, but in the last several years seeing how some lunatic anti-semites are denying the Holocaust - he's begun speaking out.
As I recall there is a project to record the experiences of the soldiers who liberated these camps - to get their history before they are all gone.
