Well, I disagree. I personally have a common ancestor with W and most amazing of all have traced my ancestry back to Old King Cole. My guess is that most people can do a similar thing.

As part of the deal for settling issues leftover from the Rebellion, all but about 4% of Virginia residents at the time (circa 1676) changed their surnames. That way they could not be held accountable for acts charged to anyone with their former name ~ such was the state of the law in those days.
I've noticed that ALL the George Washington genealogies ignore this facet of his family's life in the New World.
