Myth vs. Fact: Health Care Plan Provisions (Romney's record)
Mitt Romney For President ^ | February 05, 2007

Posted on 02/05/2007 9:19:26 PM PST by Clintonfatigued

MYTH: Under Governor Romney's Massachusetts Health Insurance Reform Plan, Abortion Services Are Offered As Part Of The Commonwealth Care Benefit Services Package.

FACT: The Commonwealth Care Benefit Services Package Was Developed By The Connector Authority – An Independent Authority Separate From The Governor's Office.

The Commonwealth Care Package Is Designed And Administered By The Commonwealth Health Insurance Connector Authority. "The Connector administers two separate programs; Commonwealth Care and Commonwealth Choice. Commonwealth Care offers subsidized insurance to people whose annual incomes are up to 300% or the Federal Poverty Level." (Commonwealth Connector Official Website, www.mass.gov, Accessed 2/5/07)

The Commonwealth Heath Insurance Connector Authority Is An Independent Public Authority And Their Decisions Were Made Separate Of The Romney Administration. "The Commonwealth Health Insurance Connector Authority is an independent public authority created to implement significant portions of the new landmark health care reform legislation. The Connector assists qualified Massachusetts adult residents with the purchase of affordable health care coverage if they don't already have it." (Commonwealth Connector Official Website, www.mass.gov, Accessed 2/5/07)

FACT: Under Massachusetts Law And Court Precedent, If The State Is Funding Health Care Benefits – As It Is With The Subsidized Commonwealth Care Products – It Cannot Refuse To Fund Abortions.

In 1981, The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Ruled That The Massachusetts Constitution Required Payment For Abortions For Medicaid-Eligible Women. (Moe v. Secretary of Admin & Finance, 1981)

- According To The Decision, When A State Subsidizes Medical Care, It Cannot Infringe On "The Exercise Of A Fundamental Right" Which The Court Interpreted As Access To Medically Necessary Abortion Services. (Moe v. Secretary of Admin & Finance, 1981)

In 1997, The Supreme Judicial Court Reaffirmed Its Position That A State-Subsidized Plan Must Offer "Medically Necessary Abortions."

While I don't personally support any of the candidates yet, there appears to be some misperceptions about the field.

As MA Governor, Mitt Romney was caught between a leftist activist state Supreme Court, an entrenched 'Rat-dominated legislature, and a super-biased local media. As a result, he was forced to accomidate the left more than he would have liked to.

Man, Isn't is still February 2007? Not November 2007?

Anyway, today is Rudy's day. Let him have it and we can bring up this stuff later.

We don't need no facts, we base our decisions on hearsay and myths.

Yeah, it is pretty sad. Poor little Mitt just HAD to include taxpayer funded abortions in his socialized medicine scheme. *barf*

What, by pushing and passing a socialized healthcare scheme that made Ted Kennedy swoon?

Wow, straight from Romney's site. No slanted info there, LOL. Here's my question. What conservative causes did Mitt support, campaign for, vote for BEFORE his last election in Massachusetts. I'll be happy to look at any specific examples.

What exactly are you trying to prove? That Mitt Romney isn't responsible for a bill he pushed, and signed?

Every Governor has... It is called Medicaid! Which the Mass. Universal Health Care experiment had to support or it would not get federal funding! Federal Law mandates and so do Mass. Law.

I am so shocked that another red-herring came out from MassResistance.

And while we are at criticizing Mass"Resistance" let's examine why they changed their name from Article8 Alliance to MassResistance when Mitt started to run? Hmmm.... Could it be that they have taken the term "Resistance" from the words or our saviour Jesus Christ when he said to "Resist" evil. Do these supporters of Mass"Resistance" think Romney is Evil?

I do. He's the biggest fraud I've ever seen in politics. He's the only politician I've seen who not only talks out of both sides of his mouth, but has mastered doing both simultaneously.

Romney apparently vetoed some parts of this legislation, but not the part that involves Planned Parenthood. He also made no attempt to exclude abortion from the benefits.

The inclusion of the court rulings here is a red herring. Last time I checked the legislature makes the laws and the Governor signs them. Of course, we know Romney has a propensity to forget that and mistakenly act as if the judiciary were in charge of all three branches. So, I guess I shouldn't be surprised by the defense they've mounted.

Ok, what level of Evil is he historically comparable to?

Ranging from the most vile to least vile match Mitt to someone comparable: The Devil himself, Hitler, Ghengis Kahn, Stalin, Jeffrey Dahmer, David Duke, Richard Nixon, James Buchanan, Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, Roseanne Barr, Miss America - Tara Connor, Rosie O'Donnel, or Donald Trump.

Well, let's see...hmmm...by his own admission, he supported abortion even BEFORE Roe v. Wade.

That makes him complicit in the butchery of about 50 million American citizens.

I'd say that puts him in the same league as any murdering tyrant in history.

Ok, so you would place him between Stalin and Jeffrey Dahmer. I think his political equivalent in your mind is Pol-pot.
