Castle turns 70 in 2009, he's too old to begin a career in the Senate, not to mention his voting record lurches more and more leftward each year. His ACU rating in 2005 was a horrible 28 (!) and he would instantly become the most liberal Republican in the Senate, nearly on par with Lincoln Chafee. Surely there are other younger Republicans in the state we could recruit who are remotely Conservative (or even Moderate !).

There are, but none of them would win. Actually, I think that Joe Biden will win the primary and then drop out of the race, leaving the state party to nominate his son, the new AG. And I fear that, absent a Castle candidacy, the GOP will be caught flat-footed with an unviable candidate.
This is a case where we have no good options. (seems to be a great deal of that lately, ugh)
