Space shuttle astronaut arrested at OIA on attempted kidnapping, battery charges

A NASA astronaut is charged with attacking her rival for another astronaut's attention early Monday at Orlando International Airport, the Orlando Sentinel has learned.

Lisa Marie Nowak drove from Texas to meet the 1 a.m. flight of a younger woman who had also been seeing the male astronaut Nowak pined for, according to Orlando police.

Nowak -- who was a mission specialist on a Discovery launch last summer -- was wearing a trench coat and wig and had a knife, BB pistol, rubber tubing and plastic bags, reports show. Once U.S. Air Force Capt. Colleen Shipman arrived, Nowak followed her to the airport's Blue Lot for long-term parking, tried to get into Shipman's car and doused her with pepper spray, according to reports.

Having had some personal experience with an Air Force Lt Col chick who was arrested for assault I tend to agree with that statement.

You're mistaken about one thing - this chick is married with 3 kids. I really feel bad for them.

I stand corrected. As the USAF does not have its own long-term 'care facility', anyone getting over a certain number of years went to Ft Leavenworth, Kansas (sent a few folks there myself, I'm proud to add...)

I understand what you're saying. I have worked rotating shifts myself.

None the less, here on earth we still have the 24 hour daily cycle - divided up into various portions of light and dark depending upon the season. Our behavior evolved within this environment.

I'm curious how we adapt when this cycle no longer applies - For example when orbiting the earth and experiencing multiple light dark cycles within one 24 hour period.

[Circadian rhythms exist but even cavemen had to be alert and awake for things in the dark of night.]

More so during certain phases of the lunar cycle. Most emergency services workers can provide tons of anecdotal evidence pertaining to this.

When fatigue sat in, I'd get a natural rush around five in the morning that carried me all day if necessary.

I agree. I've worked many a one-hundred plus hour week and never thought of killing anyone. Lack of sleep was not a factor in this crime, especially as evidenced by the planing and preparation before the trip began.

I remember one USAF pilot court-martialed in the early 1990s for clandestinely videotaping himself having sex with a hundred different chicks all over the country. One of them found the tape and gave him up.

I have known many AF pilots who were normal, but the proportion of 'carousers' was much higher than in the rest of the military.

Many a tail-gunner have jumped out of bedroom windows too. They caught the Officers affliction due to their special privilege.
