I have no idea about his faith, but I'm pretty sure he votes with the democrats regarding the war. I'd rather we fight the Islamic jihadis over there instead of having them here blowing themselves up at our shopping malls, weddings and pizza parlors and or importing dirty bombs or other WMD to set off in our cities. We should stay and keep killing them as long as they keep sending them in.
I suspect I would interpret Ron Paul's vote on the war to be extremely independent of the democrats, especially socialist democrats, although the yea/nea might coincide with their effort. Instead, if his vote wasn't on the same side as Republicans vs Democrats, it should be a firm indicator that the cause for the vote had not been well made to him. If one could label it a fault, he has always had a tendency to vote his own volition according to his rational perception rather than any shape or form of group voting. His perspective, when I knew him, was that he voted the same way he felt others should vote, in order for our government to function properly. Accordingly, if others didn;t vote with him, he believed that if they were voting ethically, they also would vote their conscience. I acknowledge gamesmanship and mob psychology have prevailed over mature wherewithal amongst many liberals, resulting in many conservatives reacting by following suit.
