My prediction-Gore vs. the winner of Rudy vs. Hunter.
If we just get down to the real top priority -- terrorism -- Mayor Rudy seems like the best pick for this reason: NYC was once upon a time a nightmare of drug deals, prostitution, porn, high crime, etc., etc. I grew up in the surrounding areas. Then I moved far away. When I went back, years later, it was a different city. Rudy had cleaned up in one fell swoop -- without a great deal of popularity. He didn't try to pacify anyone, he didn't try for "regional diplomacy," and he didn't try negotiating. He had the criminals, the prostitutes, the drug dealers, the porn movies, the filth, dragged out by the hair and at gunpoint, and that was the end of it. He cleaned it all up. He had his own "vision" (as George W. does) but he went all the way for it -- despite popular "opinion." That's what we need now (no disrespect intended for our President). President Bush has simply tried to be a gentleman in a war dealing with animals. I don't think Rudy would have such problems. As to some of his more "non-conservative" thinking -- well, no candidates are going to be perfect. But I wouldn't call him the lesser of several hideous candidates. I'd call him the best for the war on terror -- and imho without solving that, very little else is going to matter in the long run.
