A pro-life media campaign that recently hit the local airwaves has produced promising results, said Tom Peterson, president of VirtueMedia, which produced the ads.
The spots offer support to women who may be considering abortion by putting them in touch with counselors and pro-life medical clinics.
The media blitz began airing Dec. 26 on most of the major stations. After only a week of running Peterson said there were 467 total requests for help from women who had seen the ads.
In addition, more than 200 women requested help for post-abortion healing. He estimated that 1.5 million people were exposed to the advertisements.
The fruits are just incredible, said Peterson, referring to the success of the campaign so far.
VirtueMedia plans to run these ads all year.
The entire campaign cost the pro-life apostolate $250,000. The Diocese of Phoenix contributed $140,000 to that amount through its Sanctity of Life collection last October and the Catholic Community Foundation donated $23,000 to the cause. Private donors provided the remainder of the funds.
Sheila Reily, director of the Life Choices Womens Clinic, said that response to the ads has been so great that the phones have not stopped for two days.
This is the busiest we have been in my 20 some years here, she said, noting that she wouldnt mind some more volunteers.
Peterson didnt think the momentum would wear off.
This is going to be a very impacting campaign all year long, he said.
This is the best approach - winning hearts and minds through non-governmental channels.
Any progress the pro life movement will make in the next window in time will be from projects like this.
Praise God.
How long before the ACLU challenges this? It's bound to happen as this is a great thing and they can't have that.
There's nothing to challenge. The advertisements are produced with donated private funds, the ad time is purchased with donated private funds, and no candidates or legislation is endorsed or opposed.
I'm not catholic but I will discuss adding this campaign to our monthly giving.
Sounds like they do a great job!
"there's nothing to challenge" has never stopped the ACLU before.
They are not a Catholic (or any other demoninational) organization, and yes, they do a fantastic job.
Sounds great. I will discuss it with the wife. We have really enjoyed dividing our tithe to causes we support instead of just writing one check to our church.
But what about "undo stress" on the people who were going to abort?
These ACLU people think like that. Nothing to challenge IS the chalenge for these sue-happy Thought Police.
