Federal Liberals will get to eat their own words during Super Bowl commercial breaks

Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his Conservatives cant be accused of lacking muscle as they enter their second year in government.
From the environment to the income trust issue, Harpers team is showing leadership.
Perhaps thats why Stephane Dions Liberals pretend to be so outraged.

The Liberals are seeing integrity and courage not evident under either Jean Chretiens or Paul Martins reigns.
Start with the environment. The Grits had 13 years to tackle the greenhouse gas issue and did nothing but talk.
Greenhouse gas emissions rose 27% under their administration from 1990 levels even though they promised to lower emissions 10%.
Former environment minister Dion portrays himself as a great champion of the environment.
Yet what did he achieve?
Dions leadership contenders such as Michael Ignatieff and Ken Dryden even tackled Dion on his do-nothing record during the leadership campaign.
Said Ignatieff, disputing Dions claims: We just didnt do it.
Dryden made similar comments.
Which is what the Conservatives are displaying to great advantage in their attack ads running during the Super Bowl game today.
The commercials use the Liberals own words not distortions or exaggerations to paint that partys governments absolute failure on environmental matters.
So while other viewers will be munching on hotdogs and popcorn the Liberals will even eating crow and humble pie.
Now the Liberals are charging Harper is stealing their environmental protection ideas and policies.
Harpers team may be adapting the best ideas but unlike the Grits, they will put them in place and make them work.
Plus, what hypocrisy!
Chretien and Martin stole tax cut and budget balancing ideas and even the Clarity Act to put roadblocks in front of Quebec separation referendums from the Reform and Canadian Alliance parties.
Finance Minister Jim Flahertys decision to reverse an election promise not to tax income trusts has caused outrage among investors across the nation.
Even former Alberta premier Ralph Klein has called on Flaherty to reverse his decision.
But Flaherty explained his decision succinctly before an all-party Parliamentary committee.
He put it this way: I am not prepared to sacrifice the interests of millions of hard-working Canadians who pay their taxes and play by the rules so that a select group of special interests can enjoy a tax holiday.
The finance minister estimated the tax loophole caused by income trusts would drain away $500 million a year of government revenues and threaten to sabotage many of the tax cuts he planned to put into place across the board for average families.
It wasnt a big problem when just a few companies were in the income trust field but looming up after the Liberals lost last years election were some of the largest and most profitable corporations in Canada planning to convert.
The Liberals cry foul, but recall in 1993 they promised to abolish the 7% GST and tear up the free-trade agreement with the U.S., knowing full well they would do neither.
The income trust issue is small potatoes compared to the GST and the free-trade promises.
Leadership is what good government is all about.
We didnt get it for 13 years. Now we are.
These so-called attack ads score a touchdown on all fronts.
Go Colts INDEED!
I predict a stellar performance for Peyton Manning, I dearly hope he gets that Super Bowl ring that has proved so illusive.
It's a bizarre world when a clip of a Liberal leadership debate is considered an "attack ad" against the Liberals.
What channel has it here?
btw, GO BEARS!
What a hoot!!!
You've got me there, G.
I'm rooting for the Bears because when I was in Chicago 2 weekends ago the Bears won the 'semi-final' (is that what they call it in football?), hardly anyone could crack a smile.
These people need to smile more, I tell ya!
Besides, since when do those up your way receive more than one channel?
Since algore invented the internet.
:-D
Everything Dion thinks he needed to know, he learned in kindergarten.
Yes, but few would do that.
We watch cable, and they play commercials that are sold for broadcast in Canada.
We always heard about the great super bowl commercials, but Canadians saw very few of them before the internet.
'da Colts' !!!
Those were classic ads. Loved the new Canadian Forces ads too - our people are actually holding...ARMS! Woo hoo, you go Steve!
There was some ex-military guy who worked beside me up until a few weeks ago. He was all upset that the Canadian Forces ads would be traumatic for the families of those serving in Afghanistan and become a PR nightmare for the CPC. He was an anti-Bush, pro-liberal robot, someone I was kinda glad was not in the military any longer.
LOL
Can't take the credit I'm afraid. Soon everyone here will be gone.
