Warming report builds support for action [ Glob"Al" Warming Police Alert!]

PARIS - Fear of runaway global warming pushed 46 countries to line up Saturday behind France's appeal for a new environmental body that could single out — and perhaps police — nations that abuse the Earth.

"It is our responsibility. The future of humanity demands it," President Jacques Chirac said in an appeal to put the environment at the top of the world's agenda.

He spoke at a conference a day after the release in Paris of a grim report from the world's leading climate scientists and government officials that said global warming is so severe that it will "continue for centuries" and that humans are to blame.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's report sparked calls for fast, planet-wide action and was embraced by Europeans. A total of 46 countries agreed to pursue plans for the new organization, and to hold their first meeting in Morocco this spring.

But key world polluters — including the United States, China, India and Russia — steered clear.

Without naming the United States directly, Chirac expressed frustration that "some large countries, large rich countries, still must be convinced." They are "refusing to accept the consequences of their acts," he said.

Chirac, 74, is seeking to leave his mark on international affairs before he leaves office, likely in May, though his environmental record over 12 years as France's president is spotty.

Former Vice President Al Gore, whose documentary on the perils of global warming has garnered worldwide attention, cheered Chirac's efforts.

"We are at a tipping point," Gore said in recorded remarks shown at the conference. Friday's report was "yet another warning about the dangers we face. We must act, and act swiftly. ... Such action requires international cooperation

I hope that when their "Storm Troopers" arrest me--- they'll read me my "Miranda Rights".

Nations that abuse the Earth.

1. Russia
2. China
3. India

I am sure there are plenty of other third world countries that burn wood for cooking and heating.

While we are at it, corking the volcanoes will reduce air pollution a whole lot. Especially those undersea versions with their black smokers. Start with Iceland and work your way south, use high temperature grout.

The push is on for world socialism, run by France with alGore as King.

If our enviro-weenies were really serious they would be pushing for the conversion of all the world's power plants to nuclear, and the grounding of all private jets. One G3 puts out 10,000 pounds of CO2 to hour of flight.

You're right. Chirac can't even police the greenhouse gas emitting, car-burning sections of Paris, let alone the planet.

Has anyone else noticed the "surge" of global warming stories in the MSM over the past couple of weeks?!
I KNOW it has been a small part of a soon-to-be implemented agenda.

IMO, they are trying to whip the public into a frenzy so that it will be easier to sell us on a HUGE tax increase (on American citizens) to fund global warming initiatives, Kyoto treaty, etc., which will have NO impact on global warming but a HUGE impact on our wallets.

I don't for a minute believe global warming is caused by man. However it would be nice if it were, since that would imply that we would have the ability to speed it up...

It's too damn cold in these parts. I'd like to see more global warming.

I've noticed this trend, too.

Have you also found that during the Winter, Al Gore refers to "Climate Crisis"--- and during the Summer, he calls it "Global Warming"?

Pretty sneaky dodge.

Global Warming; Global Socialism; same thing.
Don't let anyone convince you different.
It's all a socialist ploy to redistribute wealth at the expense of the industrial nations of the world.

I've noticed a huge increase in news pollution about this. Really shameful.

Time to re-read "State of Fear."

Warming report builds support for action

That report stated that "global warming would continue for centuries no matter how much humans control their pollution." So if global warming is inevitable (as stated in the report), why is there support for any action to counteract it? ....it simply won't work!

France's appeal for a new environmental body that could single out — and perhaps police — nations that abuse the Earth.

China, India, and other highly populated third-world nations are far and away the worst polluters on earth -- it's not even close. But who gets the majority blame? The U.S., of course.

Comparing greenhouse gases by strict concentration only, the total human component is somewhere between 0.1% and 0.2%, depending on whose numbers you use. Adjusted for GWP, the total human contribution to Earth's overall greenhouse effect is about 0.28%.

HUMAN CONTRIBUTION
