Bush, Pelosi plan joint news conference Saturday

WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia (Reuters) - President George W. Bush is scheduled to hold a news conference on Saturday with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record) after he addresses a meeting of House Democrats, congressional aides said on Friday.

Bush will speak to House of Representatives Democrats holding an annual weekend retreat at about 10 a.m. (1500 GMT). Afterward, at about 11:40 a.m. (1640 GMT), Bush, along with Pelosi and other House Democratic leaders, will answer reporters' questions.

Bush, a Republican, will be appearing at the Williamsburg retreat one month after Democrats took control of the House and Senate. With less than two years remaining in Bush's presidency, his policies, including his handling of the Iraq war, are being challenged by Democrats.

The unusual news conference comes as Republicans and Democrats have been stressing the need for more bipartisanship following years of tense relations between the two political parties.

Interesting, He Says, She Says.

Well lets see He says we cannot afford to lose and I hope Congress understands that.

She says The war in Iraq is unwinnable and requires a redeployment of troops out of Iraq.

This record is played out... What could be new.

If Bush comes out and does a capitulation act with her and her ilk, I'll hve no more respect for him and his moderate B.S. ways.

I am so sick and tired of republicans trying to "work" with DBM/dems when they've done nothing for 50 years but ALWAYS stab repubs in the back!

No "compromise" we must WIN this WOT in Iraq.

Why, what possible good can come of pretending your interlocutor is anything but an internationalist, socialist, traitorous, Hugo Chavez in a pant suit?

If Bush plays footsie with Sanfran Nan to pander to the imaginary "center" (there is no center-- only the Left and the Lunatic Left--while the Republicans in full retreat, abandon every core principle real Americans have struggled and fought with blood and treasure to preserve) he may as well spend the rest of his administration teaching Barney dog tricks in the Rose Garden.

Bush has nothing to win and much to lose in this meeting. In fact, the only way he can walk out of the meeting looking good to the MSM is if he says,

"Ah shucks, the Democrats won the election and I am here to work with them to pass their agenda."

Worst yet, Bush may green light the Democratic Domestic Social Agenda in order to get Dem support for the war.

I'm not optimistic. When Pelosi and Co. got elected, the first thing Bush said is 'Great, these guys will work with me and approve my illegal alien guest worker plan [a.k.a. amnesty scam].'

I will anxiously await and see what happens, BUT this appears to be an "all-win" situation for Socialist Pelosi and "all-lose" situation for GWB.

The liberals will see their ilk standing shoulder to shoulder with the Commander in Chief, as if there is no Constitutional difference between the two.

Constitutionalists will see the CiC lowering his threshold of leadership.

Images mean something, and Bush may know what he is doing by creating this "image" of bipartisanship. I just don't think Bush's image will be enhanced in anyone's mind because of this--the libs will still hate him. They'll be gleeful he is being "forced" (in their minds) to share the mantle of National Leader with Stretch.

Conservatives will not jump for joy, either.

Hey, he's still the President, and I'll still pray for him...I want us to win the WoT, and the liberals don't.

You know what amazes me the most is that there must be a part of the NIE that says that the political divide in the U.S. has been a large contributing force to the upswing in violence in Iraq and specific comments by certain Democrat Leaders have emboldened our enemies.... I mean that is simply common sense but the level of damage it has done must be in there and why hasn't that been leaked to the NY Times? or maybe it has and they refuse to print it because it hurts their agenda.

Lord have mercy! We know how gracious and polite President Bush is. I admire his generous, forgiving spirit, yes I do, I wish I were more like that. But jeezopeez, turning the other cheek in this lions den can get your butt chewed off.

In my fantasy, President Bush has Pelosi arrested and declares martial law.

...and then I wake up.
