I am a "racial profiler".

My wife is Mexican but could be easily mistaken for Middle Eastern. She takes frequent flights due to her occupation and on occasion these are on short notice and one way. She is very often pulled out of line for a complete search of her luggage etc. She does not like this but understands. Her attitude is the extra hassle is worth it. She want to arrive at her destination instead of being dead.

There is not anything wrong with profiling by race, religion, or ethnic background. I have yet to hear about a terrorist Quaker or Mennonite cell.

My son has a very tanned dark complexion and eyes. He too is often pulled out of line (as am I when accompanying him.) Big deal.....a lot of money, time and inconvenience could be saved if racial profiling were paramount in determining who is searched....but common sense has no part in a politically-correct society.

Kudos to your wife for her kindly approach to getting more than a fair
share of inconvenience.

I'm sure it's little consolation, but starting around 1997, there was
a fifty-fifty chance I'd get the "Sir, do you mind if we do a little
extra inspection of your belongings?" when I flew from Los Angeles
to my family/friends in Oklahoma, Missouri and Texas.

I guess my bland northern-European looks, spotless record with law
enforcement, business cloths and bachelors degree from a conservative
church-affiliated college somehow screamed "He might be a drug runner...
or a Serbian Christian terrorist" to the security officials.

While I laughed about it, it has converted me to a "fly only when
necessary" traveler.
