By the way, the headline of this report is misleading. The dead person was paid a little over $130,000 since his or her death in 1974, not each year. I thought that $130,000 annually meant that $130,000 per year for 30+ years (damn near $4,000,000).
Did I mis-read?
The writer misread (or didn't read) the actual report. My saying it is misleading is charitable. It is flat out wrong. It's not what the
actual report or the
WPVI-TV story Fox News.com is relying on said. Both said the "deceased" was paid $130,000 in total, not $130,000 per year since his death.
The actual report says, on page 81, "One employee was hired in 1966 and retired August 1, 2006; according to the SSA, he passed away in 1974. Since then, checks have been issued in his name totaling $130,822 after taxes." The report also says ALL 10 people who received compensation from the Camden school district after they were supposedly deceased received a total of $380,830.34. So it is not possible that he received $130,000 per year for 30+ years.
