A true liberal wants as little government intrusiveness as possible and in those rare instances where government is actually appropriate (outside of the Defense), it is most preferable for it to be involved at the lowest level possible, in keeping with the principles of a republic. What passes for this misnamed 'liberal' today is really a central planning authoritarian. Sadly, many so called conservatives also have central planning and authoritarian tendencies...many of those post here, too.

It's kind of pointless to try and still attach labels to anything. 'Liberal' means whatever the person hearing it thinks it means. Getting into arguments about the historical meaning of a word is pointless.
