Afghan, Coalition Forces Kill Taliban Fighters

| WASHINGTON, Feb. 2, 2007 – Afghan National Army soldiers and coalition forces killed more than 10 Taliban fighters today in a small-arms engagement near the village of Farah in Farah province, Afghanistan.
The battle occurred after Taliban fighters attacked an Afghan army checkpoint. The Afghan National Army, along with coalition forces, immediately responded with direct fire.
One Afghan soldier was killed in the engagement, and two were wounded.
In another operation, Afghan and coalition forces conducted combat operations against terrorists in the Bermel district of Paktika province today.
Coalition forces spotted a group setting up rockets and engaged the group with indirect fire. The forces requested, and received, air support to eliminate the threat. Coalition aircraft dropped two munitions on the site and another one on five personnel moving into a dry river bed.
A ground patrol moved to the site and confirmed that two were killed, and another five are suspected dead.
