This conversation that you all are having re: bidding on Ebay is just fascinating.
I have never even bought anything off of Ebay...let alone bid for something.
I feel like I am hearing an opera for the first time..but reading the subtitles.

I just rememvered - there was something I got on evay vut it had a deal where you could just vuy it outright for x amount of dollars, and I didn't have the patience to wait so I got it on the "vuy outright" deal. Much easier on the nerves. MUCH.
Good description, Sleuth.

Yes I only made that one bid. I had been watching the item for 7 days and the way it had been described and because there was not a charger with it I knew it would not get that expensive. I do not think he really knew the value of what he was selling and how to market it correctly.
I have this model of camera for many years and therefore knew that it was worth far more than I was willing to pay I had budgeted myself for about 30.00 pounds so typed in 27.50 hoping that it would not suddenly jump to that figure as that would have put me about an extra couple of pounds more with postage than I wanted to pay. I was fortunate that the highest bid the other person had made was much lower and I got it for 16.60.

It was at 16.10 and that was going up in 0.50 at 30 seconds I typed in the maximum I was willing to pay which was 27.50 I got it for 16.60. Oh, I think I'm getting it. If you have the highest vid, you get the item vut don't have to pay that full amount unless the vidding goes right up to your highest vid. Is that correct?

Depends on how it it is being sent and what the value is normally I do not especially if it is cheap and I can easily get it elsewhere.
On the other hand if expensive often the seller will insist you take insurance.

Someone jumped the vid to $38 in the last couple seconds. There was at least one other person fighting for the key6oard 6ecause we were out6idding one another every few seconds, then 6OOM he/she jumped their 6id 6y $18 at the last second.

I suspect someone had put a high bid in early properly the maximum they were willing to pay maybe they were not going to be around at the end of the auction so put a high figure in thinking it probably would not have got that high.
