This vaccine only works when given to the young, especially before puberty. That is why it must be given to 9-11 year olds.
Doctors say that somewhere between 30 to 50% of all women have this virus. Most boys and men who carry this show no symptoms at all. Ever. But they can and will pass this on.
I am totally for this for personal reasons.

When I was pregnant I was diagnosed with Cervical cancer. It was advanced-I had always had tests, but it was undiagnosed or mis diagnosed until then. I had a c section then a radical hysterectomy one after another. I spent 6 days in the hospital and the last 3 years in treatment. Instead of spending time with my new baby (the only one I will ever have) I spent it with my head in a toilet puking my guts out and losing all my hair. I may die. Odds are not in my favor. If I could have had that vaccine this may not have happened. My son may have had a mother when he gets older. My husband may have had me longer. Who knows. A vaccine may not have helped me, but I will never know that, and I wish I could have had a way to possibly stop this from afflicting me and my family. A vaccine will not make a 9 year old have sex. That is ridiculous. But a vaccine may keep a family together years later. The very minute this is approved for boys my son is getting this. If I can keep him from getting sick or passing this on to someone else I will. This isn't like measles or mumps. It's far far worse.

God bless you and thank you for your post. I will be praying for you, and I do hope others will actually read your post and reconsider their kneejerk reactions.

Big red, that is rough what you are going through. I pray for your healing and that you will be with your family for many years to come.

My daughter doesn't want to get this vaccine because it implies she will be unchaste. I tell her a perfectly chaste woman can be infected by her husband if he has one prior contact.

I will share your story with her. Some good will come out of your suffering. That is not much compensation but that's why you told your story - thank you.

I still object to the government forcing a vaccine for a disease that is not casually transmissible, but I think it is wise for parents to have their daughters vaccinated. You don't have to explain the moral aspect to an 11 y.o., you just have to tell her it will protect her later on. It does still protect when given to older girls and young women but the immune reaction is stronger at young ages.

I agree with you sentiment, however. I would part ways with you on making it "mandatory." Make it available, publicize it, advertise it, give people a chance to talk to their physicians about it and make a decision as a parent. But, make it mandatory? Hmmm. That's my objection, to the "mandatory" nature of it. IF it's a lifesaver, publicize it and claim it as such, so others can challenge the data if need be. Make it available and let the parenets decide, not the governor.

Thank you for your courage in telling us your story, and for standing for protecting our children. God bless and keep you. We're only learning about the effects of different strains and how fast some of the cancers can develop.

You've probably saved a few lives, today, just by making us more aware.

By adding Gardasil to the mandated vaccine list, the Governor will increase the insurance companies that pay for the vaccine.

The last part of the Order contains strong language in favor of parental rights and for making it easier to opt out. That sort of language won't be found in the Dem's proposed legislation on the vaccine - instead, they build in more bureaucracy.
