IT'S TIME for the 39-year-old boy mayor to grow up.
Look, I'd rather not be writing about Gavin Newsom's personal life. Newsom has been a good mayor for San Francisco, and that is what counts the most.
Like many who have watched him, I've tended to figure that, as Newsom is divorced, good-looking and holds a high-profile political office, he's going to get around.
When Matier & Ross reported that Newsom had been dating 20-year-old Brittanie Mountz, I questioned -- not for the first time -- his judgment. I wondered what Newsom would have to talk about with someone so young -- if they talked. But it was his personal life. If Mountz was seen drinking what looked like a glass of wine in public -- someone may have broken the law, but there are bigger wrongs in this wide world.
Then there was the chatter about Newsom showing up at the hospital well into his cups to comfort the family of slain police officer Bryan Tuvera. Again, it was late on a Friday night. I thought, well, even a mayor is entitled to some time off the clock. Let him be human.
Newsom's admission that he had an affair in 2005 with his campaign manager's wife, however, is impossible to overlook. Newsom not only betrayed Alex Tourk, a friend and one-time deputy chief of staff, but raised the question of Newsom's character. He betrayed a friend and loyal aide, let down his staff and lost his patina of professionalism. The affair was not simply bad judgment, it was cruel.
And stupid.
Now voters have to ask themselves: If Newsom could treat a good friendas badly as he treated Alex Tourk, how does he treat people who aren't his friends?

Do we know for fact it was wine? Could have been sprite. White grape juice.
That is what is a bit odd about this story. Willie Brown is famous/infamous for having babes on his arm anytime he is seen in public.
truth really is stranger than fiction........
Grammar police. Shouldn't that be in the past tense? "Mounted", as it were? :)
Of course. But even many of them, a great majority i'd say, have that SF mentality nevertheless.
My first response wasn't as kind as the ones here:
I thought: "Well at least it was a girl he was having an affair with!"
SF is the modern Sodom et al. Newsome is the boy wonder who is the pied piper of modern day secular humanism with socialist pacifism as its foundation. Like Pan, he plays the 'if it feels good, do it' philosophy and his entire city looks more like a playground for evil and demonic activities than the old Sodom. I wonder if any serious minded pol will ever try to clean up that cess-pool.
Rudy Giuliani was able to clean up his city because the people wanted it cleaned up. The people of SF are happy in their little socialistic cesspool by the bay.
I thought that the mayor of San Francisco would be of, you know, the other persuasion.
She's a very "hard" looking 20 yrs old for sure.
In the pic I would have guessed at least 10 yrs older.
OTOH who gives a rip?
You mean, after the neutron bomb wipes out the current population?
He didn't break any secular laws (and unlike iran we don't have ministers running the court system).
Sad to say but Gavin is actually considered a "conservative" here and you will understand this if you knew that he narrowly beat the Green/commie in the last election.
Alas his care not cash plan has been a mixed bad (just like clinton's "end welfare as we know it") it has saved millions by taking thousands of grifters off the dole but hasn't removed them from the streets. My wife and I each witnessed them defecating on the sidewalk in separate incidents last month.
So it is time for phase 2 - a Giuliani style cleanup of all the scum, but I doubt Gavin has the balls to do it. Then again, he did bang his campaign manager's wife...
I guess if your boss had sex with your wife, you'd say, "Thank you, sir, is there anything else?"
I certainly would not, why would you say such a mean thing? Go to hell.
Why would you say such a mean thing, that this doesn't matter?
What is San Francisco's Chicken Mayor afraid of?
