No, he's being smart. Let the other's punch themselves out for a while and he'll get in when the time is right. It's the smart move. Right now he is not really being scrutinized. Let McCain and Romney go up in flames.

I can see him holding off announcing his candidacy, if that's what he's doing (although I don't agree with the strategy - all the back and forth is just preliminaries until the primaries actually start - and he'll have to announce long before that - no one's going to coronate the RINO).
However, that really has nothing to do with whether he marks the box for party as "Republican" when he fills out required FEC forms.
He seems to admit as much in that his campaign is now saying that they're going to (or already have) refile, marking the box Republican.
It's a move that doesn't make any sense, and it appears that at least some elements of his campaign now recognize that.
