"The base of the GOP simply will not support an openly liberal candidate on social issues.

Do not rule out some possible new names to surface in the coming months--it's early, so let's not carve each other up too much..."

You'd better hope things get cookin' real soon.

I along with many other conservatives will not support a candidate who cannot defeat Hillary just because they are MORE conservative.

And therein lies the problem that the Republican party will have to face.

On one side you have the "conservative base" who you say will never support a "liberal" like Giuliani(even though he isn't one), and the other side who will not support a candidate who can't defeat Shillary just to placate the conservative base.

Hell, Zell is more conservative than President Bush! As I said, a Democrat Republicans (and conservatives!) could love!

Well, that's it, no sense in even voting, is there? I'm glad you told me because now I can expend my time and energy on improving my golf game.

Perhaps he's laying the groundwork for a possible third party run.

Could be. Julie-annie is perfect for the Also Ran ticket.

That's the conclusion I've come to. If you've come to a different one, feel free to act accordingly.

Hillary's problem is that 98% of Americans do know who she is; Rudy's problem is that 98% of Republicans know who he is.

"I'm not sure how you define 'viable', but there are certainly candidates I can support, i.e. Duncan Hunter. Also, it's a long time until the Presidential election. You seem kind of in a hurry to write everyone else off. Why?"

I define "viable" as someone who can beat Hillary.

Duncan Hunter has impressive conservative credentials, but IMHO he will not be the nominee.

He has neither the money, nor the organization.

I think Newt is brilliant and would love to vote for him, but I don't think he will be the nominee and he doesn't have broad based support.

If I had to vote for McCain I would but I'm not sure he can beat Hillary.

You may think it's a long time until the election, but it isn't a long time until the primaries and if a candidate doesn't have an organization and money raised soon it will be too late.

"Giuliani's campaign confirmed that leaving off the Republican designation wasn't a typo. It was the campaign's 'judgment that we didn't have to fill in that box,' said a campaign lawyer. The lawyer said an update filed Wednesday lists him as a Republican, though that form couldn't be found on the Federal Election Commission Web site."

It really would be a hoot to see the Democrats scrambling should Giuliani run as a Democrat...!

You are correct, but the difference will be that Rudy can take media hits, he is used to it since they hated him running their town for all those years.

We shall see how he handles them this time, since Rudy, Hunter, Romney and Newt have all taken on the liberal MSM with gusto in their public lives, it will be fun to watch.

I'm not quite sure I understand your statement.

Are you saying Hillary can't win?

I hope not.

..there is a fringe on the right who will support a "protest" candidate and claim to have the "true faith".

But most of the base IMHO is looking for a positive, genuine conservative who will give America a clear choice--not just a different flavor of Democrat...

sure, the MSM and the clinton money machine are going to treat duncan hunter and sam brownback with kid gloves, if either of them are the nominee.

when you can show us some numbers and polling data that demonstrates that "most of the base" have enough numbers to elect a President, let us know OK.

where was this voting block in 2006, to elect good senators like Allen, Santorum and Talent? did they pull those wins out?

In spite of the juvenile comments by so called "real conservatives", as of now, Rudy is still the only candidate who will beat the Psycho Whore.

Maybe Rudy's just keeping his options open. Maybe he'll run with the Psycho Whore.

Hillary/Rudy ..... now there's a Democratic ticket.

Maybe he doesn't like being called a RINO! LOL!

Since he doesn't know which party he's in, I guess that we'll just have to call him an INO.

..I don't recall making a statement like that

I did say that the base will probably determine who the candidate is.
