The problem is, many of these mobile home parks that take such a horrific beating in these storms are old places, with homes built in the 50's, 60's and 70's that were essentially RVs with the wheels taken off - flimsy things with puny wood frames covered by sheet aluminum, aluminum wiring and no anchors.

And if you think they do poorly in storms, you ought to see what happens to them when that aluminum wiring overheats and a fire breaks out. They go up so fast that unless you're away from home when the fire starts, chances are you won't survive.

More modern mobile homes are much more solidly built, and all new mobile home construction has required hurricane anchors for some time. But you still have these crappy old things everywhere, mostly lived in by poor people, who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford their own home. So, getting them out of these deathtraps won't be easy.

This is just horrible damage .. dear Lord. God bless all those suffering. I'm stunned at the deaths, but seeing the devastation .. it's clear it really could've been so much worse. To be asleep at 3am and have that at your door .. I can't imagine how terrifying.

I lost it all in Andrew in a CBS dwelling .. across from 4 mobile home communities, all flattened, with all the sheet metal piercing everything.

Church member Debbie Brown finds a bible in the rubble from the Lady Lake Church of God in Lady Lake, Fla., after a severe storm devastated the area. A church was destroyed and several deaths were reported.

I'm so glad I got out of Florida. Prayers lifted for all. It's so tough to rise from the ashes.
