LADY LAKE, Florida (CNN) -- Deadly storms swept across central Florida on Friday morning, damaging homes, toppling trees and sending trucks careening off Interstate 4, police said.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office said there were "several" fatalities in Lady Lake, where at least two mobile home parks were hit. Authorities could not say how many deaths there were.

Oh, dear...I didn't hear Nelson's interview on CNN, thank goodness.
He was LAUGHING when he was with the people that lost everything...and possibly loved ones, the idiot.
So tragic .. God, be with them.
WOW...that is good news, onyx.
You probably really needed it...and hopefully, it will keep you from getting really sick.
How are you feeling today?
That scanner is the very best way to go,,,bar none,,,
I do like the warning for the public though,,,
Jeeze ... he's a total jackass .. I think space travel
messed with his brain.
I grew up in a house that was a mile out of city limits of Boulder, Colorado....so all we had was a volunteer fire dept.
Whenever there was a fire, they would wind up that CD alarm, and there was NO WAY anyone could sleep through it for miles and miles.
The alarm we have right behind our house now, in Texas, I can't hear it if the TV is on....or someone is talking, ridiculous.
"We need the old CD air-raid warning system back,,,
I think it would help folks take cover..."
I don't agree. People that are prepared are prepared. Florida is HUGE. No way can you put in enough of these. Half the old foggies from up north have their hearing aids out any how. You have plenty of warning. You have all year to get ready. Get a radio.
Like you, if I hear that we MIGHT get tornados at night...I don't sleep, I don't trust any alarm going off.
Much better, thanks. I've read all your posts and thank you for pinging me. I guess the horrid tornado ruined the televsion coverage for the democrats that was planned.
YES...and I am sure that MSNBC is more upset about that, then the people that have lost lives and property.
Fox just said that no one knew when they went to bed.
I tell you what, we were very surprised a couple weeks ago when we woke up with snow all over, because it was not predicted.
However, for the weather forecasters not to have a clue of these storms?? THAT is scary.
area WAS on a tornado watch
Everyone should own a NOAA radio.
Oh, FNC is showing my town and the burning barge that ran into the old bridge here that is used only by trains.
LOL,,,There were 6 "Stations" in Shreveport-Bossier ares,,
The CD test was at 12:00 every Sat.,,,You could hear them
10 miles out of town !! But,,,that was the 50's,,,
Mite be too loud now !! I'm just glad I'm close to
Barksdale AFB,,,They got one that will "Wake the Dead"..;0)

What are you talking about? This was FORECAST SIX DAYS IN ADVANCE by the Storm Prediction Center. They have been making daily statements for days. They had TORNADO WATCHES AND WARNINGS being issued by the NWS and SPC. What more do you people want? Do we need to hold everyones hand when it storms? Did all of these people have weather radios? Who is responsible for taking care of their families during tornadoes? Mom? Dad? NWS? How many people on here have a Weather radio? Would you blame the NWS if someone you knew were killed in a tornado BUT THEY DIDN'T HAVE A NOAA WEATHER RADIO?
The NWS issued warnings. It is up to EACH ONE OF US to receive those warnings.
FOX NEWS LIED. PEOPLE HAD WARNING. PEOPLE WERE TOLD BEFORE THEY WENT TO BED THAT SEVERE WEATHER WAS POSSIBLE DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. STOP LISTENING TO THE NATIONAL MEDIA.
Time to stop blaming the government for everything.
The NWS has a page up now on the event with a time line on warnings

Synopsis:
Significant tornado event overnight within Lake and Volusia Counties. Confirmed tornado damage and injuries in a damage swath from Lady Lake (Lake County) to New Smyrna Beach/Ponce Inlet (VolusiaCounty). Numerous media reports indicate 19 fatalities within Lake County.
Synoptic & Mesoscale Situation:
East Central Florida was located in the warm sector ahead of an advancing cold front. Large scale lift was supported by a very strong jet aloft, with strong vertical shear evident from the surface to aloft, conducive for rotating thunderstorms, even tornadoes. Instability increased overnight with temperatures and dew points increasing through the pre-dawn hours. A moderate threat of tornadoes was indicated within the Hazardous Weather Outlook.
Approximately five long-tracked supercell thunderstorms impacted east central Florida between midnight and sunrise today.
The main weather story is centered around one particular supercell thunderstorm which moved from near Lady Lake around 3:15 AM (Lake County; TOR issued 306 AM) to near Paisley around 3:45 AM
then moved to near Deland around 4:00 (Volusia County; TOR issued 3:52 AM) to near New Smyrna Beach/Ponce Inlet around 4:30 AM before exiting offshore. The distance of the supercell storm was approximately 70 miles. One or more tornadoes touched down along the supercell track.
Tornado scenarios such as this are classified as very dangerous, especially due to the threat of tornado occurrence during overnight hours when most individuals are asleep. A NOAA Weather Radio containing an alarm feature can be a life-saving device in these situations.
Rant off
Dang...I was repeating what I heard on TV.
You don't have to go off on me you jerk.
This is the actual text of the 3:15 am warning for Lake County where most deaths occurred. I live just north of Ocala and this was one scary storm.
