Where I live was once underwater several thousand years ago. What caused it then if there were no people around?

One more crack like that and your research grant will be pulled.

[What that means in simple language is "we have this our grants nailed," said top U.S. climate scientist Jerry Mahlman, who originated the percentage system.]

That conclusion was necessary to properly impose global socialism. Thus, it was inevitable. We may freeze our butts off, but no matter what the MUST be human-induced global warming. Politics demands it, and science has no chance against politics. This baby is like the proverbial asteroid of movies -- a threat to the entire earth and all life on it. This is a Godsend for anyone desiring to impose complete governmental control on the entire population. Chavez probably wishes he thought of this.

Once this belief is institutionalized and threat to all life enshrined legislatively, freedom will stand no chance whatsoever...every imposition will be supportable by the need to "save the earth." Global warming may or may not ever have any impact, the institutionalization of the political belief will cause it create a great dark age from which we won't escape for many, many generations.

The panel quickly agreed Thursday on two of the most contentious issues: attributing global warming to man-made burning of fossil fuels and connecting it to a recent increase in stronger hurricanes.

Negotiations over a third and more difficult issue — how much the sea level is predicted to rise by 2100 — went into the night Thursday with a deadline approaching for the report.

What the hell kind of comedy is this? Monty Python skit? What a consensus! I'm like totally impressed with the consensusness of this consensus.

OK, so if we can't do anything about it, let's all go have
a drink and forget about all this Kyoto crap.

"Very likely" is a phrase for fortune cookies and the Magic 8-Ball. Not for science.

They didn't even get a phrased usually used by doctors. The dreded "Highly Likely". Global Warming is only very likely.

Speaking of apples, this is reminiscent of Alar.

And for that matter, all the "scientific" hoaxes we've had to endure over the decades. And with one fraud and error after another, they still don't have a bit of cynicism. Maybe because the absence of global warming would be an "inconvenient truth."

So if it's unstoppable, does that mean we can stop with all the "emissions control" and Kyoto bullsh*t??

They have a hard enough time forecasting whether the weekend will be rained out or not; but they have 2100 all sewed up already. Oy vay...

Well said.

Though I would add that it is but one of many avenues we are pursuing in that direction.

I gotta agree...that European government wage guarantee concept that's being discussed in Congress now is a beaut of an "avenue" that's coming up.

What a bunch of hemp smoking IDIOTS! The SUN has more to do with Global warming than man EVER will. Or is it the United States that is also responsible for warming on Mars as well.... oh and Venus, how could I forget that. Its called a SOLAR CYCLE, in conjunction with the SHAPE of the Earth's orbit around the sun, yea, the planet is gonna get warmer, REAL scientists have known that for hundreds of years now.

These asses are only looking for Money and fame. Thats it.

global warming ... will be unstoppable for centuries ... now that world has begun to warm, hotter temperatures and rises in sea level "would continue for centuries" no matter how much humans control their pollution

Interestingly, if you believe the IPCC (I don't), there's some good news buried in this "scary" report. Anyone who accepts the report as the truth must therefore also accept the claim that the warming is unstoppable, no matter how much humans control their pollution. Clearly that means that it would be a foolish waste of resources to put into place emissions caps, carbon credit trading, punitive taxes or fees, or any of the other extreme economy-killing measures that the Al Gores of the world have been pushing for.

After all, the report claims that the warming is unstoppable. What idiot (other than Al Gore) would advocate wasting resources in a futile attempt to stop something that is unstoppable... Rather, any resources that might be spent should be put towards mitigating the harmful effects of slowly rising sea levels, slowly increasing average temperatures, marginally increasing intensity of storms that are already large enough to do damage, and other small steps that can provide an effective response to the purported coming rise in global temperatures.

I'm a student, and I am inundated with these data from all my profs--conservative and liberal. I feel like most students are buying into it. Does anyone have any good sources that I can bring to counter this crap? They keep telling us that conservative scientists are on board with this, and I know the president agrees, so where's the other side? If both political sides are now running with this issue, what is left to do? Also what is their end game? What do they gain by selling this? i feel like dropping out of school...

If "Global Warming" is manmade who can it be "unstoppable"?

I've learned not to argue with the eco-nuts on this. You can't argue against religion with logic.

Two thoughts:

1. Good news that there is nothing we can do about it - no more need for Kyoto.

2. Global warming supporter Peter Ward (Univ Wash) writes that man-made global warming may delay the next ice age by 50,000 years. Alternatively, when the next ice age starts, humanity, according to Ward, may have to pump greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere to prevent it. He notes an ice age is the end to civilization as we know it - he is right on that point.
