Inhofe is talking in the hearing...but is asking more techinical problems having to do with the Budget..which is what the hearing is about.

When they start throwing out money figures...I just can't keep up...LOL

They are dicussing the BRAC program right now.

I am watching Kennedy...he is like a drunk, talking about 10 different subjects in one rant. LOL

Spending for the war in Iraq is responsible for the high drop out rate.

It's also responsible for unemployment. No money for training. (In fact, these people go from training program to training program and many never actually intend on getting a job.)

Bill Nelson up at the hearing....blech.

He is talking about some hearing he was at...saying that he heard from someone else that the Iraqi troops aren't doing as well as Gates said...

If the President would just stopped this war, we would not want for anything here at home.

Kennedy has legislation that would require the President to get authority from the Congress before going ahead in Iraq (that should be interesting).

DeMint is up to talk about the world wide war on terror. Talking about the damage the non-binding resolution will do.

Using the Teddy Rooseveldt quote about the man in the arena.

Casey saying that from what he has heard...they are doing okay...but there will always be cases where some Iraq troops won't be as good.

Pace: The Iraqis did a very credible job in Najaf...the setup in Baghdad will be balance approach.

Nelson: Are the troops going in being screened to get out the ones that will cause trouble and side with the militias.

He is still quoting some "guy" that testified...saying that GUY said that only 80% of the Iraqis going into Baghdad will be reliable...and I am trying to get whether they are reliable or not.

Gates: This is something we are all concerned about and we are all working to make sure that our men and women are with well trained Iraqis.... but we will be briefing you on how things are going.

If Prs. plan is predicated on the reliablity of the Iraqi troops but no one has a handle until we see them in action...that is no way to make a plan.

COBURN UP!!!

I love this guy...he is saying that they HAVE to discuss the consequences of any legislation.

He is talking about the Kurds...36 million haven't had their "own homeland" since the Ottoman Empire.

Asking about Lebanon.

He said we have an obiligation to the innocents in Iraq.

Coburn talking about what will happen if we leave Iraq.

Iran wants us to leave because they want to become the dominant force in the ME.

Don't give bellicose speeches that set up false choices. If we walk away from Iraq, history will judge us harshly.

We ought to be debating whether it is in our best long term interests to get out of Iraq.

Oh..dear, the dems aren't going to like this.

A grown up is telling them that they have to take into considertion the consequences..not just of their words, asking to have the troops brought home...but what the actions of the US leaving would wrought.

good speech.

Salazar: Disappointing day for the Senate..and the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA......LOLOLOL

All Salazar can do is complain about the procedural road block and continues the pretense that the resolution means something other than a demoralization for our troops and a victory for our enemies.

Says he's not posturing but we're in a quagmire in Iraq.

Sen. BEN Nelson: What are the consequences if the Iraqi Army doesn't hold up their end of the bargain.

Gates: We have to bear in mind...at these hearings, a list of all of the broken promises by the Iraqi govt...but we need to keep in perspective that a YEAR AGO these guys had never had experience in a dem government before.

PM Maliki intends to fulfill the obligations.

Nelson: is it really that clear...they have raised questions whether more AM troops were needed or should it just be an Iraqi operation.

Gates: that is right maliki wanted it to be all Iraqis..but after speaking with all parties, Maliki had to understand that even though they have the desire to do it...they might not have the capabaility.

Nelson: what if it fails...will we withdraw.

Gates a precipitous withdrawal....

Nelson: not a precipitous...but an orderly withdrawal.

Gates: I could see where we might reposition the forces.

Nelson: Did the POTUS tell maliki we aren't there forever.

Gates: I believe that is so.

Nelson: I just received word as I sit here the Neb. just lost another one.....

Will out troops be on point in Baghdad...or will the Iraqis.

pace: we will not in on point in plan...the Iraqis will be going to door to door..and will ge in front...our troops would be available in case of a fire fight.

The Americans will not be walking point.

The attack in Karbala was a sophisticated event..and we are still invesigating what happend...insurgents were used...but it is an ongoing investigation.

Talking about embedded troops..if met with a large crowd and only 60% of Iraqis will stand and fight, what happens.

Sheesh hypothetical after hypothetical.

Pace:we have discussed contingencies.

Nelson: so we should NOT exepect another Karbala, right??

Pace: Two different things...karbala was a sophisticated operation rather than a spontanous fight.

Dole up:

Salazar just said they are being DENIED the ability to debate the war.

It's a line they have fixated on, but as time goes by and the debate goes on and on, they are going to look more and more foolish.

I was just listening to McConnell on with Laura I.

I didn't hear it all...just came in on the part where she was asking about getting the fence built on the border.

But, then she asks "Is James Webb a 'new kind of democrat'??

Mitch really hesitates and says he has only been there for a month or two...so he doesn't know.

Laura goes on to expound about his rebuttal speech, and how he and his family had a military history...and he LOVE his country>....

Mitch said...well, a lot of the states that Bush carried had dems that SOUNDED more centrist...but we will have to wait and see if his votes are the same.

Laura has some kind of THING for Webb....I can't deal with that....ugh.

Laura has some kind of THING for Webb....

Obviously she didn't bother to read and analyze his speech or she would think far less of it. Can she possibly think that just SAYING that you love your country is enough? Pretty shallow there, Laura.

Klobuchar is a good example of why we don't need more women senators. It's all soldiers as victims, soldiers as children, grieving families.

This is one of the most childish speeches I have ever heard in the Senate and that says quite a bit.
