The Pinal County Sheriff's Department said David Norris Jr. was driving a vehicle containing a dozen illegal immigrants Saturday in an Eloy farm field when four heavily armed men in a white full-size van began firing on them. Norris, 46, was killed and a 19-year-old man in Norris' vehicle was shot in the leg, authorities said. Andres de Jesus, of Oaxaca, Mexico, was released Thursday from a Tucson hospital and taken to a hospital in Nogales, Sonora.
Sheriff's Detective Buddy Johnson said Thursday that authorities didn't know why De Jesus was trying to pass himself off as a young boy.
