Rummyfan, you're 100% precisely correct. Why would the guy who is angry about his wife cheating on him quit his job? Having less money available in the bank is somehow going to help him with the ordeal? Heck, I would have sued the Office of the Mayor and put the pressure on the wandering-eye mayor. As it stands now, the mayor successfully got some "strange" with essentially no downside. He retained his prestigious job and ditched his current wife and his cheating 34-year-old girlfriend. He is free to pursue whomever he wants now...from the way the story is described.
