This column is a follow up to an earlier colum by the same author. If you haven't seen the first one, you owe it to yourself! It's here:
The Troops Also Need to Support the American People
I was dead wrong in using the word mercenary to describe the American soldier today.... The situation might be much worse than that....
Thanks for clearing that up!

Criky, when you see the people defending you as a threat, it just might be time to go in for treatment.
To: 68skylark
The author, Arkin, is obviously just looking for attention. No different from any miscreant in a classroom.

You know that his editor just put him in for a raise and that the publisher will give it to him. Why? Because it's the Washington Post!

I wager that 99.5% of anti-war hippies who claim to "Support the Troops" have never sent a care package.

Evidently, far too many in uniform believe that they are the one true nation. They hide behind the constitution and the flag and then spew an anti-Democrat, anti-liberal, anti-journalism, anti-dissent, and anti-citizen message that reflects a certain contempt for the American people.
____
Only a contempt for stupid people Mr. Journalist, and allies of the enemy, either unintended or intentional, of which you are a charter member.

And he piles on more insults.
The troops don't have contempt for the American people - but I do notice from talking to soldiers that they have a generalized contempt for quitters, losers and lazy people.
That would probably include not only William Arkin but also 95% of his relatives, friends, acquaintances and colleagues.
Arkin probably thinks that everyone in America is like him and his nearest and dearest.
Luckily, we're not.

Mr. Arkin has hit bottom and brought in excavating equipment.
I would likely be having a long and interesting conversation with the FBI were I to openly express my opinion of what fate should befall the esteemable Mr. Arkin and his employer.

I find it completely incredible that the likes of a person like this are setting the left-wing agenda and that they're actually being listened to and even more incredibly, setting the agenda. The left after all was able to win the last election cycle with the kind of idiocy that this guy spews out every day. This guy proves that we are in dire need to take back this country from his type of lunacy which is also manifesting itself within congress and most of the left-wing media.
