Fox, Franz Josef glaciers defy trend

The rest of the world's glaciers may be melting, but New Zealand's two best-known glaciers are still on the march.

Guides say the Franz Josef and the Fox glaciers continued advancing down their valleys in the past year and may soon be close to positions reached 40 years ago.

That contrasts sharply with the plight of many glaciers elsewhere on the planet, which are shrinking three times faster than they were in the 1980s, according to the World Glacier Monitoring Service (WGMS).

The Swiss organisation maintains a constant watch of 30 mountain glaciers and said yesterday its latest survey, of 2005 conditions, showed the glaciers had become on average 60cm to 70cm thinner, which it blamed on climate change.

The glacier on Mt. Kilimanjaro which is 200 miles from the equator is evidence of made-made Global Warming. The advance of eight glaciers in Norway, 2 in the United States, three in South America, those are anecdotal evidence and ignored.

Perhaps a nuclear bomb would convince these glaciers they are suppose to be retreating.

Ya' know, there's always at least one who doesn't get the message.

This is yet another example of why the term "Global Warming" is being abandoned. Its because global warming isn't global. In many places its not even warming.

The new term is now "Climate Change". This term allows pseudoscientists, leftists and anybody else with an agenda to blame any weather oddity on the United States.

If it was a French glacier, it would be retreating.

Firstly, I know you were being sarcastic, here...

Actually, Mt. Kilimanjaro's de-glaciation is due to de-forestation..
So much timber has been cut in the area, without proper re-planting or any kind of forestry management, that it has affected rainfall on and around the mountain..
Less rainfall / snowfall equals less glacial ice...

This is a case of "anthropomorphic" climate change, but it extremely localized...

The actual ( achievable ) cure is to begin reforestation of the slopes and surrounding landscape..
Given a few years, local precipitation may return to "normal" and the glaciers will return..

The media misrepresents this phenomena as part of the GW pattern all the time, when even the most modest effort at researching would provide the truth..

Don't have time to do a search right now, but there was another article this week about how even the ex-planet Pluto is undergoing global warming.

Investigative reporters already know the truth, the US is evil, capitalism is evil, and both must be stopped. Don't bother them with the details.

Not this week, but here's one from about 6 months ago, that covers not only Pluto, but Mars, Jupiter and it's moons, etc..
Solar activity affects ALL the planets...

Is that a threat? I hope your comment isn't seen in Boston as they may have a terror/panic attack and arrest you... ;)

Thanks for the link, and the succeeding links to "Real Climate"..

It is food for thought..
Of course, "correlation does not necessarily mean causation", but then again, it doesn't exclude it either..

Global Warming or Global Cooling, we still are required to be "Good Stewards" of the land, air and water..
This is, at present, the only planet we've got...
That alone is enough reason to act responsibly..

I still consider much of the present GW "controversy" as self-serving political hype, however..
Far more due to natural causes than anything mankind is doing / has done...
