If you're a Republican mayor of NYC, you're a Rockefeller Republican. You don't get elected up here otherwise.

That's quite a headline. I think shooting him would be pretty inappropriate. ;)

Sometimes the best is the enemy of the good.

Would they have "taken out" Ronald Reagan because he was divorced, or because he had an earlier record as a labor union guy, or because he once supported abortion?

It remains to be seen what Rudy will do about these issues, but closing your eyes and declaring that you refuse to even look at someone is politically stupid.

If they take that attitude, they will predicatably end up supporting some unknown candidate who will never get more than 3% of the vote. It's far too early to write Rudy off.

McCain, yes. McCain has a proven record of treachery and insane behavior. Pataki, yes. Pataki has a record of actually working for abortion, which Rudy, despite his earlier statements, does not. And just consider their records in office. Pataki betrayed all his campaign promises and left the state in a mess. Rudy kept his promises, and left the city far better than he found it.

Life and family are bottom line issues for me, but it's far too early to write Giuliani off on these issues. Let's see how it develops first. I would support Duncan Hunter if he manages to make himself known and goes head to head with Rudy, but let's see if he can do it, eh?

Note that Family Research Council's Tony Perkins finds Giuliani "unacceptable," and plans to take him out if he shows strength.

Jeez! Is the FRC turning into the Sopranos?

that has become increasingly dependent on and influenced by conservative Christians

As if every single President in our history wasn't completely required to present himself as a Bible believing Christian. (Including Thomas Jefferson)

This will all be moot if Hellary is the opposition.

Can the thrice-married New Yorker — a supporter of abortion rights, gay rights and gun control — win the nomination of a Republican Party...

Yes!

Can he be elected? Maybe

Will he get my vote? NO!

Before I get flamed, I believe it is far better to keep your enemy outside your camp than within. That is why I didn't vote for Kay Baily Hutchison in the last election.

Rudy sure would torpedo the Republican claim to be the 'pro-life party'.

Just how low can the GOP go.

Well while the family research council may have legitimate concerns about Guliani, they should take some responsibility for their probable accomplishments via this initiative.

i.e. it will be on their heads if a state-child-rearing rape-enabler gets elected instead as NYS' other offering this election cycle.

The FRC is just continuing the Republican tradition of eating their own. We're doomed to have Hillary Clinton as the next President if this non sense doesn't stop.

Instead of threatening to destroy the rep party, how about grooming some powerhouse conservative candidates with wide, across the board appeal???
