They've donated thousands of dollars to radical gay activist organizations.

Not really, what they did was agree to pay a commission to a gay organization for sales that have been generated from that organization's site.

I haven't seen the proof of that, but assuming it's true, then take on WalMart for an obvious homosexual sponsoring agenda, not on the basis of the books they carry, which is the point of the article. WalMart's stock choices are only evidence of attempting to make a profit.

Now, now - you know what happens when you inject common sense and/or facts in these threads ;^)

Wal-mart is partnered with the NGLCC and a Walmart VP will sit on their corporate advisory council. This also includes sponsorship of their events and initiatives. This agreement also included $25k.

Additionally, Walmart has given $60k to the Out and Equal organization. This organization promotes same sex marriage.

On the other side of the equation Walmart also gives to the Salvation Army.

Looks like they are still trying to play both sides of the fence.

For a retailer, there is only one side of the fence - the side with profits.

Does it not strike anyone as very 'Talibanish' to ban books that one doesn't agree with on moral grounds?

If it were the government, that would be a valid view. But since these are private individuals making purchasing decisions based on whatever criteria they wish to set, no, the analogy doesn't fit.

Yup, and that line is usually drawn by our Legislature and our Courts.

I haven't seen a single post calling for the government to ban such books. Can you produce one? If not, then what in the world are you going on about?

All too rare a commodity these days.

Caution! You are making far too much sense. :)

Since not one post has called for the government to intervene, he's not making a bit of sense.

Ah, but paranoia does seem to run rampant among some on FR.

Based upon this standard, every store should carry child porn, S&M titles, how to make bombs at home, etc. {NOT!!!] Now that you've flunked Basic Moral Philosophy, try again.

In a morally licentious society, you're correct. But in a society where consumers hold corporations accountable, nope. If corporations know their profit margin will suffer because consumers don't separate morality from economics, then morality won't be jettisoned from product line decisions.

It's only when consumers convey a "I don't care what you carry" attitude that "what's good for business" becomes skewed.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. That was kind of what I was getting at. If we don't like what a retailer is doing, we can reinforce our displeasure by shopping elsewhere.

Retailers don't care about morality - they care about profits.

Search New Age.

Search Occult. But nice try at your rose-colored glasses, Hey.

Search all kinds of things that militates against the faith and encourages vice over virtue.

For every Christian-based product, this store is profiting off the sale of evil and proliferating it at the same time.

I have no desire to live under your rule or your idea of morality. I am not one of your "flock" nor do I care to be. Your hatred is irrational and dangerous to liberty.
