Some of us remember Newt's abysmal, negative public opinion numbers from his House leadership days.
Newt is dead meat as a presidential candidate. Smart man. Terrible presidential prospect.

I think his plan is to ride in on his white horse at the end of the year when the conservatives realize Romney is a farce and there is no acceptable candidate in the field. His best chance is to ride that first wave of momentum into the primary rather than peaking too soon like Howard Dean did in '04.
