She would have had to retire in two years anyway, because Bush would be out of office and she'd have nothing to write about. She was a professional Bush-basher. I think I saw one column of hers in the last five years that wasn't about Bush. And I'm not exaggerating.

I hate to think spiteful thoughts upon hearing upon the death of someone.
But she was an angry person and she directed all her venom at Bush and the GOP.
But god forbid that you tried to criticize her. Those who did were castigated as "rude" or "ungentlemanly". Ann Richards was much the same way. They'd both feign hurt and indignation at being called to account for what they said.
An news anchor on our local news said "She loved to poke fun at politicans". No. She loved to poke fun at Pres Bush and the GOP.
RIP, Ms. Ivins. But you won't be missed by many of us.
