The southbound lanes of I- 85 in Coweta County near Newnan were closed for nearly an hour when a motorist was struck and killed early Tuesday after his car broke down.
Terrance Harvey, 42, of Forest Park and his brother were driving to work at a construction job in Newnan shortly after 6:30 a.m. when Harveys car stalled, authorities said.
Coweta Sheriffs Lt. John LaChance said because of highway work, there was no emergency lane.
The two men got out of the car to get to safety behind a barrier wall, but Harvey decided to try to start the car one more time.
LaChance said that when Harvey did so, he and his car were struck by another vehicle and he was thrown from the vehicle and struck several times. LaChance said the other driver was a 24-year-old man living in Norcross who faces charges of driving without a valid license.
I must be a bigot also then. I was reading my old hometown newspaper police blotter about a holiday DWI checkpoint results. Fifteen citations were issued for DWI, Thirteen citations were issued for driving without a license. Two were transported to the county jail for failure to appear in court in other townships for driving without a license and DWI. The reason I must be a bigot is because all the driving without a license surnames were hispanic.
Wow, nothing like sheer speculation. If you're going to try an "entropy" argument, why not this possibility: THIS driver would've crashed into *someone else* instead - in MEXICO (where he probably belongs)?
I have to agree with you. Immigration issue aside, a car that is broke down on a busy Interstate, in a lane that is traveled in, boxed in by concrete safety barriers in a construction zone, has a much better than 50-50 chance of being hit by another car. It was a highly dangerous situation.
You're ignoring the fact it was HIT by an illegal alien.
The rest of your arguement is guesswork.
I am not aware of any provision in GA Law that would have prevented a car driven by a US Citizen from crashing into a car that was broke down in the middle of the interstate.
WOW. Glad you gave us the real information. How sad. They gotta get rid of these people. No amnesty.
LaChance says that when he did so, he and his car were struck by another vehicle and he was thrown into the center lane and struck two or three more times.
LaChance says the other driver was 24-year-old Mexican citizen living in Norcross, who faces charges of driving without a valid license.
How can a car be driven by two drivers?
Nevermind, duh. "Other driver" meant the driver of the other car. The entire article refers only to the two brothers and their car AND their names, without ever mentioning the other car or HIS name, except a vague mention.
The deceased stepped out into a busy freeway.
I drive that freeway. Anyone not in a car on that road will be dead in short order.
That the driver involved in the death was an "illegal" is purely a matter of statistics, no more relevant than that driver being "Hispanic", "Male", "X years old", or "wearing a green shirt".
They charged the at-fault driver with driving w/o a valid license, eh? Nice to see the county prosecutor really throw the book at someone for a change.
( / sarc ), if anyone missed it.
That's certainly a good bet. Also, while an insurance settlement certainly won't make up for the loss of a loved one, in the absence of such a settlement the victim's family won't even have the option of bringing a wrongful death lawsuit. The perp has no I.D., probably no valid SSN, and thus no way to track the defendant around and garnish his wages. Illegals are judgment-proof... but they can certainly hire an attorney to sue you or me. And win.
The system is so badly broken that it's hard to know where to begin the repair work.
You didn't read. He went back in his car to try to start it and his car was struck by the other guy.
No, you just correctly profiled the individual.
My bad.
Still, there isn't much of a shoulder at all - in a freeway where the average speed is about 85MPH and most cars are way too close.
Yep. Anytime I hear of a fatal accident around here, particularly one that involves hit-and-run, and/or DUI, I immediately think illegal. And more often than not, I'm proven right.
Anyone who hasn't noticed this correlation is either willfully ignorant, or lives in an area without many illegals.
I wouldn't drive around my town after sundown on friday night on a dare.
After 25 years in one of our state prisons dont cha know.
You have hit the nail on the head for sure.
I'm not sure if it would be 3 out of 5 across the country, but it would be safe to say THOSE three deaths probably wouldn't have occurred.
Along those same lines, while the circumstances were such that it can't be said that THIS death wouldn't have occurred, the dead mans chances would have been much better if a legal driver would have been driving.
It isn't random chance that illegals are involved in thousands of deadly accidents each year. Rather, it's a predictable outcome of our failed border policy.
There are a LOT of illegals who are on the road and are on their way to an accident. Choose your vehicle and drive accordingly.
I doubt many people in Norcross have a valid license. It is close to 100% Mexican.
