Israel maintained its dominance since 1967 even after the 1973 failure.

The Yom Kipur War was a failure?

It may not have been a failure, but it was no victory.

Israel came damn close to losing in the first 4 days. The Bar Lev line was breached on the first day, with a mechanized division destroyed. In the north, all that was left was a regiment holding off a division of Syrians. Israel was saved by many soldier refusing to surrender when bypassed or wounded and by serious errors by the Arab forces. Fortunately this gave time for Israel to mobilize. Moreover, US aid began pouring into Israel. Many people have speculated that one of the reasons that Nixon was so willing to give the aid was that Israel called off a nuclear strike on the valley between Damascus and the Golan.
