Romney's visit in South Carolina had a not so surprising McCain/Anti-mormon moment.

"I don't think that I could see someone who is a member of a faith so contrary to my faith having my support," said state Rep. Gloria Haskins"

Anyone know what faith Gloria Haskins is?

When Romney ran against John Lakian in the GOP primary for
his 1994 Senate campaign (he eventually lost to Ted K
in the final), Lakian tried not to make any remarks about
his religion, then accidently blurted out the name of
his opponent as "Mr. Mormon"....

Why anyone can let religious beliefs come into play with politics, is beyond me.

She speaks for herself, I hope. But cannot imagine such an ignorant comment. OTOH. . .

Meantime.. .I support Romney. Moral values are not owned by the Christian faith exclusively. Right-wing Conservatives had better wake-up; or they will be praying for the end of the world; rather than just preparing for it.

One time I heard a couple of morons on the radio from that place talking down Catholicism saying their belief system was the right way to embrace God and Catholics had it wrong.

Had a good laugh then turned the station.

I want to point something out that is fairly obvious but often overlooked.

You can in this country, have an opinion and openly voice it about any religion. This is called freedom of religion, and freedom of speech. Anti-Mormon is itself a derogatory expression. It is my right, granted by the constitution to free speech.

There is a contingency who try show the lies and viciousness of "anti-mormons." Just because someone chooses to speak out, in their perceived truth, it isn't necessarily lies and it isn't vicious.

There are those who try to still dissenting voices by accusing people of Anti-Mormon religious bigotry. I have often been labeled as such. Bigotry is defined in the following ways:

Bigot is often used as a pejorative term against a person who is obstinately devoted to their prejudices even when these views are challenged or proven to be false.

or...

One who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.

Since I was a Mormon, by birth, culture and religion, and overcame my prejudices after the claims of Mormonism were proven to me to be false. AND since I am not strongly partial to any of my perceived "own groups," of religion, race or politics, and since I am not intolerant, I do not qualify as a bigot. People started listening to me as one who has valid experience inside Mormonism, and isn't a "hater." I just am a person speaking truth of my opinion, using facts to back it up.

The argument I've heard is this: "How can I trust the judgment of someone who believes things that are absurd?"
(NOTE - This is NOT my quote so don't flame me!))

Your headline is misleading and implies that McCain may be behind these anti-mormon views. A candidate cannot be held responsible if some of his supporters are prejudiced. I am sure that in SC there also a lot of anti-catholic individuals especially from the extreme fundamentalist groups. Senator McCain is above reproach on all matters pertaining to religion and such headlines are just propaganda by those who oppose his candidacy.

You might have heard two people saying they were Mormons, but I doubt they were realy Mormons. We are not only taught that THERE IS GOOD IN EVERY CHURCH, but we are also encouraged to never speak ill of another denomination. There is no way a legit LDS Member would ever put down catholics and especially not on a radio program. Pope John Paul had many meetings with the Mormon church leader and they were good friends, so there is not foundation for any negative feelings towards Catholics.

Aren't we supposed to judge (evaluate?) people by their ACTIONS?

If every person in this country lived their life like Mitt Romney it would be a much better place.

A person's personal relationship with their God is nobody's business.

First off, Mormons aren't perfect, so it's possible that one might mess up and say something like that. Secondly, , he wasn't even talking about Mormons, lol, he said "morons from that place", meaning Bob Jones University.
