This is going to sound really shallow but fluorescent lighting, presently found in laundromats and bus stations, is EXTREMELY unflattering light to be seen in. I won't have it in the house. There must be a better way to save energy and resources than this...and BTW, I don't appreciate the condescending remark of this Levine jerk that consumers will buy whatever's in front of them that's cheapest, and are incapable of understanding value for money. Liberal elitist dork.

Compact fluorescents come in different color ranges. You'll probably like the daylight ones, which look a lot better than the yellowish incandescent tinge.

Yes, the light from these bulbs do shift colors in most public places. And the instant on will be a thing of the past when the bulbs get older.

Just bought two to put in a place that we do not spent time in. They were advertised as 3200 Kelvin bulbs and I will tell you I have to question that. Household incandescent are, I believe, even lower than 3100 and is the reason for the warm soft light. Usually the lower wattage in normal household lighting the lower Kelvin. Normal sunlight shining on the earth is up in the tens of thousands, and even above, and in photography the normal Kelvin rating is 5600K (considered white light). Special fluorescence can be purchased for various conditions such as fluorescence for artist using paints. Even some can be purchased for lighting in greenhouses to promote plant growth.

Reading a book under incandescent bulb is the only way to go. Soft, warm, defused and really easy on the eyes, and most important (at least to me) is they do not glare off some types of paper.

And still, there are special coated bulbs with various substance that can change the color. No perfect answer. Let's just keep government out of it.

I don't like them, either. The light is harsh and hard on the eyes. Looks like they want to do to light bulbs what they did to toilets - force us to go backwards and use a product that doesn't work as well.

I agree. Two people on a date have better things to do than sit under a light that reveals each person's physical flaws.

Bingo.... Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner.

I sing with an a cappella singing group. There is NO WAY IN HELL I would put on my stage makeup in green-casting fluorescent lighing.

I hate photographing my kids in their high school sports gym (son is a gymnast and daughter is in poms that perform at high school basketball half-times) because of that gawdawful yellow/orangish mercury lighting.

It's awful too.

I can't imagine Barbra Streisand being happy about being forced to put green-casting fluorescent lighting all over her precious house in Malibu as well.

And what are they going to do? Have border patrol at all the roads that lead into or from nearby states to check cars/trucks for lighting "contraband"? Ye gods!!!!!! These people are INSANE!!!!!!!!
