The victories that the Sixties generation brought about -- the admission of minorities and women into full citizenship, the strengthening of individual liberties, and the healthy willingness to question authority -- have made America a far better place for all its citizens.

Women and minorities were full citizens long, long before the Sixties generation even knew what a joint was. Up until the beginning of the Sixties, the ethnic group with the fastest economic development of any was that of American blacks. It was brought to a screeching halt by the racial politics of the War on Poverty, a program designed to keep blacks on the Democrat political plantation. Remember that as far back as Reconstruction blacks were entering political life and serving in various elected positions in both local and state governments. The Great Compromise of 1877, a compromise of Republican moderates with Southern Democrats, destroyed that shining start in the South for a hundred years. In the 1960s, as in the 1860s, it was up to the Republicans to stand for Civil Rights.

Individual liberties were not strengthened by the Sixties generation. Their politics have led, instead, to the development of intrusive government combined with high tech oppression combined with the idiocies of political correctness. As far as the "healthy willingness to question authority" goes, the Founding Fathers did that one better. They not merely questioned authority, they successfully challenged it and overthrew it in order to establish liberty. The Sixties generation have traded that in for the liberty to curse in public, to burn the flag, to be obscene, to try to regulate everyone's lives in energy use, and (they haven't gotten this one yet) to indulge every drug-related urge. As a result of Sixties generation environmental wackiness combined with anti-business, we've seen over a billion people sicken from malaria and over two hundred million die die from the disease. We've seen hundreds of billions of dollars being spent to combat a climate menace that doesn't exist. America is far from being a far better place for all its citizens as a result of the Sixties generation. The world is far from being a better place.
