If the French turn the lights off, how will we see their white flags???
SCREW THE FROGS!!!

They're trying to get the whole country to do this. I hope they succeed.

The Eiffel Tower is the quintessential monument to human ingenuity, progress, and its embodiment in the Industrial Revolution. Why are they pussy-footing around by turning off the lights, when they could be making a much more powerful and dramatic and symbolic statement of their true anti-human-progress worldview by tearing down the tower and recycling the metal into, um, plowshares... Anything less is hypocrisy of the highest order...

Don't you believe it. The French were just worried about a potential Mothra threat...

Why do it just before dawn? Who's watching?
To: Aussie Dasher
Eiffel Tower is overdone. It has no mystique at all in person. Just a lot of iron. IMHO anyway. :o) However I must say the fireworks display there at the Millennium(?) were the best.

Sydney Harbour was pretty good...

I'll bet the lights at the Eiffel Tower at Paris, Las Vegas won't go off.

Eiffel didn't design his tower planning for it to be lit up at night time. Why don't the French just turn off the lights permanently (except for the flashing light that warns planes/helicopters)?!
To: Aussie Dasher
You're right - I remember Sydney Harbour was great....I think it was the surprise that Paris even did a light show. :o) And I've seen better light show in the US than we did on that particular date. Again, IMO

There's going to come the day when those burning cars will be new energy sources for the French, mark my words!

However I must say the fireworks display there at the Millennium(?) were the best. Yeah, but when the French saw and heard those fireworks, they surrendered in droves.

The lights are out on all those attending the meeting. They won't even recognize the lights out on the Tower.

Yeah, but when the French saw and heard those fireworks, they surrendered in droves. LMAO That's what was so great! :o)
To: Aussie Dasher
Now if they could only get rid of the hot air.

There is a public appeal on the internet to the French who don't believe in "global warming" to keep their lights on while the others shut down their own.
By the way, if you believe in "global warming", I happen to be the owner of the Eiffel tower and I could sell it to you at a reasonable price.
To: Aussie Dasher
They can turn them out forever for all I care. The Eiffel tower is just an amusement park ride they never took down.
