(Hartford-WTNH) _ The Republican leader in the house is demanding two clerks who work for the Democrats be fired. The men are accused of rifling through a Republican clerk's desk and removing documents.
News Channel 8 has learned that one Democratic state senate employee has been suspended while the capitol police continue their investigation.
Republican Clerk Juliana Simone has been asked by the police not to speak about the incident, but the Legislative Office Building's surveillance cameras have apparently captured images of two Democratic state senate clerks going through her desk and taking things.
Rep. Larry Cafero, the Republican leader in House, has seen the tape and says the six minute incident is harassment.
"This was not a prank, there was no laughter among the participants, there was a seriousness of purpose," he said. "What their purpose was I do not know. Who directed them to do this, I do not know, but it certainly, in my view was not a prank.
"It's a personnel matter being looked at by the caucus officials and disciplinary action will be forthcoming if warranted and it seems to be warranted.," said Patrick Scully, a spokesman for Senate Democrats.
"You think it will include dismissal?"
"It will not include dismissal from what I understand."
Simone worked in this committee office last year when the committee conducted highly publicized hearings looking into the fund raising activities of the governor's chief of staff Lisa Moody.
The chief of the capitol police says he expects to release the surveillance tape as soon as his officers have concluded an investigation into the incident.
