President Eisenhower had four portraits displayed in his White House office, one being Robert E Lee.

Winston Churchill was another one who admired Robert E. Lee. He called Lee "one of the noblest Americans who ever lived, and one of the greatest captains known to the annals of war." (The Washington Times, February 10, 2007, page D5).

The article notes that Churchill "wrote admiringly of Lincoln, Lee, Stonewall Jackson, and, surprisingly, McClellan.
