PB, I recognized the quote and made my initial comment based on the fact that they botched it... and that their misinterpretation is illogical.

D'OH!!! Disregard that, please... I thought you were going with a misquote from another thread where I was the first reply. I actually didn't know where your "pardon" quote comes from. (Most teachers aren't required to read German lyrical poetry, by the way.)
So why do you think my response to Heinrich Heine would be any different than it was to you? And why do you assume that using it in your context matches the context in which he used it? He was not exactly an atheist.
