Florida A&M chooses Ammons

DURHAM -- Florida A&M University trustees today selected James H. Ammons to be the next president of his alma mater in Tallahassee. The decision means N.C. Central University, the Durham campus that Ammons has led for the past six years, will have to find a new chancellor.
On Wednesday, the Florida A&M Alumni Association cited Ammons' proven track record. **
His understanding of the significance of historical black colleges and universities and their mission as well as their commitment to not only survive but also thrive is apparent in the vision he has implemented [at NCCU], Alvin Bryant, president of the association, said in a resolution signed by 15 community leaders.
