The strangest things come out of Japan.
You got that right. Have you seen manga and anime?

I am 63 and my husband is 60. I can understand the results of this study. I spend much time in washing, ironing, cooking, setting up pills, etc., that I would not do if he were not around. However, he does all the outside work (we live in a rural area) which I am unable to do. I think that each person doing it without resentment towards the other would go a long way toward negating the results of the study.

IOW elederly men, if you just hire a maid service you will be able to dump the wife and
1. have the housework done with no complaints
2. no nagging about not helping.
3. a prettier view
4. Did I mention the absence of nagging?
5. The prettier view worth repeating.
OR
The two people can just realize they love each other and acknowledge the lifetime of sacrifice for the reward of having that special someone always there.
(..and you can still have the absence of nagging.)

"Have you seen manga and anime?"
I have watched them for a very short time and couldn't watch anymore. Even my grandkids won't watch that stuff.

Stick together you know each other better than anyone and you have all those memories of a shared life.

I agree, the author of the Study did not write the headline.

Hi Paved Paradise- The statistic is actually flipped. The married people tend to outlive the singles because they tend to take better care of themselves, eat better, take less risks, drink less alcohol, smoke less cigarettes, and a variety of other unhealthy behavior. This is, of course, a generalization.
The exception would be the "gym rat" singles who are able to spend all their non-working time on a bicycle, kayak, skis, gym, running tracks, or similar.

Depends what you mean by elderly - anyone six months younger than me is prime. :) So, you're like the difference between aged prime beef and fertilizer?

-Of the group between 75 and 84, women who had husbands still living had a 2.02-fold greater risk of death than women who were unattached.-
My risk of death is the same as everyone else's. We're all going to die, period. Ain't no stopping it. If you're between 75 and 84 and you're used to having somebody around you could end up in a lonely place for your remaining years. That's not supposed to be good for you either.
My conclusion: we all still die.

Lots of fiber there no doubt.
In this case it means she not only reads it from covedr to cover but internalized the news.

OTOH, I'm convinced that the only reason both of my parents are still alive is that neither one wants to give the other the satisfaction of going first...

i though the death rate was about one per person... Normally that's about right. But the democrat party sees it differently. Their voters escape death every election - be it elderly men OR women. Wonder why they don't do a study on that..........
