"I'm not one of the so-called "neo-cons" who have been painted by liberals as lamenting "What good's a military if you can't use it?","

I was (am?) one of the naive neo-cons who thought humans were wired to desire freedom. My bad. That said, the quote you are using was uttered by the Clinton White House, not nec-cons.

Ain't obvious to me. Iran requires serious attention -- but a war isn't something to enter lightly. Better to collapse them internally ... and I get the feeling that's starting to happen.

You don't always have a choice about deciding to enter a war. Sometimes the war comes to you. Previously, the US approach was like a flock of sheep. The wolves killed some sheep every year around the edges of the herd, but not too many. Then on 9/11, the wolves tore into the center of the herd and killed thousands.

You can choose to not enter the war, but the wolves aren't going to stop killing no matter how many sheep are sacrificed. This isn't the kind of enemy that you can walk away from. If you ignore him, he'll follow you home and kill you, your spouse, and your children.
